Label “Twinkle”
Visual expression of retroreflective materials in daily life and their applications
Reflective materials that glow on night roads have traditionally been treated as “tools for warning of danger.”
However, retroreflective materials have the sensuous and beautiful characteristic of changing appearance depending on the angle and distance of the light, and only appearing the moment the light hits them. I wondered if this material could be reinterpreted not as a conspicuous warning presence, but as a light that quietly accompanies daily life and protects people.
In this research, we reinterpreted reflective materials as phase-free materials and explored the possibility of visual expression that unconsciously encourages safe behavior. As a practical application, I launched the label “Twinkle” using retroreflective materials. Through creating items, exhibitions, and a booklet, I present the new value of reflective materials.
